About Us

The community centre was built in 1995 to promote the cultural and educational development of youth including the physical education and sporting activities and to develop and promote community facilities for the area. The centre was financed by public subscription and is held in trust for the residents of its catchment area.

The centre consists of a hall which can be split in two (by a partition) and two small meeting rooms and a reception / coffee dock.

The community centre serves all residents of Laurel Lodge, Carpenterstown, Ashleigh, Oaktree. Laverna, and Bramley estates, approximately 2,000 houses.

The community centre fulfills its cultural, sporting and educational development of youth role by providing space to a wide variety of organisations:

  • Mother and Toddlers (to counteract the isolation of mothers looking after pre school children and provide an opportunity for pre school children to socialise) and a Playschool.
  • Dance classes (Ballet, Irish Dancing, Hip-hop), predominantly aimed at young girls, this provides exercise to a part of our community that are under represented in field sport.
  • Karate, predominantly aimed at young boys, this provides alternative exercise to field sport.
  • Yoga, Pilates and Aerobic Classes
  • Art events and Children's Art classes.
  • Bridge club and active retirement, these activities provide an opportunity for the older members of our community to socialize.
  • The new Irish. The Castleknock Community Centre has made an effort over the last number of years to reach out to these international families both in integration and the acceptance of diversity, while continuing to serve the needs of the native Irish residents.
    • The community centre provided facilities to a local Islamic women's group and the Sudanese cultural group.
  • Other groups — we accommodate residents' association committee meetings and AGM's, the Order of Malta and other groups.

The Castleknock Community Centre in Laurel Lodge is unique in the catchment area, as it is the only indoor facility available to the community and meets a diversity of needs.
